Learning Outcomes of the Curricular Unit:
LO1. Understand the specific pathological processes related to the different systems of organs, involving aetiology and pathogenesis.
LO2. Understand the morphological changes caused by different pathologies, as well as functional disorders and clinical significance.
LO3. Know the recommendations for dietary therapy and nutritional care for each of the studied pathologies.
LO4. Apply the appropriate therapeutic and nutritional intervention scheme to each of the studied pathologies.
LO5. Analyze information.
LO6. Work with a critical spirit and problem solving.
Syllabus:
S1. HIV-AIDS: pathophysiology, medical treatment and nutritional intervention.
S2. Respiratory system diseases: pathophysiology, diet therapy.
S3. Cystic fibrosis: pathophysiology and dietary therapy.
S4. Hyperuricemia and gout: nutritional care and pharmacological therapy.
S5. Blood diseases: pathophysiology and nutritional intervention.
S6. Oncological diseases: pathophysiology and nutritional intervention.
S7. Neurological diseases: pathophysiology and dietary therapy.
S8. Rheumatological diseases: pathophysiology, nutritional anti-inflammatory therapy.
S9. Osteoporosis: classification, risk factors and nutritional care.
S10. Renal diseases: pathophysiology, nutritional intervention.
S11. Transplantation: pharmacological therapy and nutritional care.
S12. Personalized nutrition: nutrigenetics and nutrigenomics; impact on nutritional therapy.
S13. Resolution of clinical cases related to the studied pathologies.
Demonstration of the Syllabus Coherence with the Curricular Unit's Objectives:
Syllabus contents nº1 to nº12 aim to reach the learning outcomes nº1 to nº6.
Syllabus content nº13 aims to achieve learning outcomes nº4, nº5 and nº6.
Teaching Methodologies (Including Evaluation):
M1. Expository method (theoretical lessons) - designed to organize the information regarding each theme in a hierarchical manner and to foster a critical spirit in clinical nutrition.
M2. Theoretical-practical lessons - exposure, analysis and discussion of the syllabus.
M2. Demonstrative and interrogative method (practical lessons - designed to consolidate the knowledge already acquired, through an active participation of the student in the discussion and presentation of clinical cases, in the resolution of practical exercises or in the presentation and discussion of scientific articles.
M3. The didactic material of the classes is made available on the e-learning platform.
Evaluation
The T and TP component have a weighting of 60% and the practical component has a weighting of 40%.
Evaluation of the T and TP components: 2 written tests (30%);evaluation of the PL component: two written tests (20% each).
Demonstration of the Coherence between the Teaching Methodologies and the Learning Outcomes:
All learning outcomes of the curricular unit will be assessed through continuous assessment. The teaching methodology of lectures and theoretical-practical classes will allow the student to acquire the knowledge and skills underlying learning outcomes nº1 to nº6. The moments of discussion of the work developed will allow to answer the learning outcomes nº4 and nº5, nº6.
