Learning Outcomes of the Curricular Unit:
This Curricular Unit aims to foster, from a continuous and sustained approach, the following objectives:
- To develop students' knowledge and ability to use instruments in health, at a population level.
- To enhance in students the recognition of public health areas that directly or indirectly involve food/dietary issues.
- To provide students with knowledge on contemporary Public Health problems at national and international levels and on strategies/ programs being developed in the nutrition area to combat them
- To develop students' skills for the development of intervention community strategies in Nutrition, adapted to different target groups and contexts of action.

- History, concepts and principles in Health and Public Health
- Planning research in Health
- Indexes and Indicators in Public Health
- Contemporary problems in Public Health
- Nutrition education and health promotion
Demonstration of the Syllabus Coherence with the Curricular Unit's Objectives:
Aiming to achieve the learning objectives set out, of which highlights the ability to develop and implement a program of Community Nutrition, the syllabus focus on key phases of community intervention programs, allowing students to perform several exercises and go to the ground to implement the program. It will be also identified several Public Health indicators as well as major contemporary public health problems, which will allow students to identify and interpret data at this level, essential for concerted actions in Public health.
Teaching Methodologies (Including Evaluation):
Knowledge will be evaluated continuously and periodically through the following procedures:
• Three evaluation moments, with the following weighting:
- 1 frequency (30% final grade = 6 values)
- 1 frequency (30% final grade = 6 values)
- 1 fieldwork (30% final grade = 6 values: 20% written work and 10% oral presentation)
• Parameters such as attendance, participation, interest and attitude in classes with the following weighting:
- Attendance, participation, interest and attitude (10% = 2 values)
Demonstration of the Coherence between the Teaching Methodologies and the Learning Outcomes:
The teaching methodology combines the oral methodology (oral lectures), essential to acquire basic structuring knowledge on key phases of intervention programs at the population level and the current public health problems, and the group work, in classes and in the field, essential to put into practice these skills and develop the different phases of intervention programs, under a practical perspective.
