Learning Outcomes of the Curricular Unit:
Physiopathology has as main objective the acquisition of knowledge related with etiopathogeny of several clinical entities considered relevant for the degree in Nutrition Sciences.
The physiology of organs and systems that directly or indirectly are associated to organic functions and dysfunctions will be approached in a detailed and systematic way.
Contents will be adapted to the requirements of the degree and will be complemented with stimuli for research by the students, assuming their relevant role in the elaboration of a bibliographic support, a base for study and further evaluation.
According to the specific characteristics of the topics learned, students will be encouraged to make a continuous preparation, based on the consultation of excerpts from scientific books or articles, in order to stimulate their preparation.
Syllabus:
1. Food supplementation in pathological contexts.
2. Dysfunctions of the thyroid and parathyroid gland.
3. Diabetes.
4. Digestive dysfunctions.
5. Metabolic basis bone diseases
6. Anemias
7. Nutrition appropriate to peri and postoperative periods.
8. Nutritional problems in chronic diseases
9. Cachexia
10. Hydroelectrolytic balance
11. Neuromuscular degenerative diseases and nutrition
12. Aging
13. Nutrition and cancer
Demonstration of the Syllabus Coherence with the Curricular Unit's Objectives:
Topics selected for the course were based on the perception of their importance for these professionals in hospital and outpatient clinical practice, and so the primary objective was the improvement of the curriculum of these professionals.
During the learning period a follow up will be made in order to understand if the knowledge is taught and integrated by the students.
Teaching Methodologies (Including Evaluation):
Knowledge transmission in classroom will be carried in an expositive form during theoretical lessons.
During the teaching period, several organic functions and dysfunctions involved in pathologies will be approached in a detailed and systematic way.
Evaluation will be carried out by two tests including multiple-choice, true / false and development questions, without discounts for wrong answers.
Tests will be quoted in 20 values and the final grade of the theoretical component will be the result of the arithmetic mean of the grade obtained in each of the tests.
A final examination will be realized for students who have not opted for continuous evaluation or who have not been able to obtain a positive classification in continuous evaluation.
Demonstration of the Coherence between the Teaching Methodologies and the Learning Outcomes:
During teaching phase, lectures are complemented with illustration by clinical cases, to help the comprehension about all the themes learned in the pedagogic plain.
