Learning Outcomes of the Curricular Unit:
This curricular unit aims to present case studies in the area of quality, environment ,and health and safety management, in order to complement and apply knowledge acquired during the cycle of studies. It is aimed to promote student’s contact with professional practices in the area of quality, environment ,and health and safety management.
At the end of this curricular unit, students are expected to:
- Collect relevant information through readings, observation of practices and interviews;
- Interpret information and analyse it using previously acquired knowledge;
- Identify and select different alternatives to the solve a specific problem;
- Apply knowledge when facing new situations;
- Work autonomously and in a team;
- Communicate arguments and conclusions, orally and by writing.

2. Case studies in Environmental Management
3. Case studies in Occupational Health and Safety Management
4. Case studies in complementary areas of Management
5. Case studies in Integrated Management Systems
Demonstration of the Syllabus Coherence with the Curricular Unit's Objectives:
The contents are consistent with the objectives formulated for the course as the topics are divided in the main actuation areas of a professional in quality, environment ,and health and safety management.
Teaching Methodologies (Including Evaluation):
This course comprises the oriented study of cases, enhancing the interpretation and application of previously acquired knowledge in real situations. The presentation of case studies will be made through lectures, study visits or bibliographic research, and all case studies will be debated in class. Students will be asked to prepare a case study to present in class.
The assessment of this course includes:
- Continuous assessment during classes, through reports (individual or in groups) regarding the cases under study (counts 65% for the final grade)
- Students’ performance in debates, lectures and study visits (counts 10% to the final grade)
- presentation of a case study (counts 25% for the final grade).
Demonstration of the Coherence between the Teaching Methodologies and the Learning Outcomes:
The methodologies of teaching and learning in this course were programmed in order to promote an integrated and applied view of relevant issues in the area of quality, environment, and occupational health and safety. Through the analysis, interpretation and discussion of real-case situations, students are expected to mature their previous knowledge and therefore be more prepared to successfully face challenges in their future professional practice.
