Learning Outcomes of the Curricular Unit:
The student should be able to:
O1 – Increase knowledge about the anatomophysiology of the nervous system and methods of its functional assessment (neurological examination)
O2 – Acquire basic knowledge about neurological syndromes, recognize and interpret semiotic changes
O3 - Acquire general knowledge about neurological diseases, especially those that have greater impact on dental practice and reflect, analyze and discuss the applicability of knowledge to specific situations
O4 – Establish relation between the content covered and its relevance for a Dentist Doctor

Demonstration of the Syllabus Coherence with the Curricular Unit's Objectives:
The syllabus (CP) were designed by learning objectives (O) of the unit, to promote among students the acquisition of knowledge appropriate to their future professional practice, namely: the brief general approach of the nervous system, which includes methods for examining its functions and recognize some syndromes, aims to give students the ability to recognize symptoms and signs traducing the nervous system dysfunction; with the approach of neurological diseases, starting from general concepts to nosological categories with particular impact in dentistry, either by their location in the head / neck, or due to their high prevalence in the population, students will learn practical issues of these pathologies with the purpose of facing them properly in their field. In this way:

Teaching Methodologies (Including Evaluation):
Theoretical and practical classes
Expository and participatory methodology with slides presentations of the program topics, containing varied iconography (e.g., neuroimaging images, videos, diagrams, figures), discussion of clinical cases, as well as literature reading research.
Tutorial classes
Analysis and discussion of the topics taught in lectures, according to proposals from students and guidance on critical reflection and analysis of specific situations.
Evaluation
Continuous, with 1 written test in the end of semester, containing different types of questions, quoted 0-20, and the final mark will be weighted by attendance, participation and attitude in class.
Demonstration of the Coherence between the Teaching Methodologies and the Learning Outcomes:
The theoretical-practical classes, characterized by expository methodologies but also the development of more dynamic participatory approach, facilitate the acquisition and the relationship of concepts, as well as the applicability of knowledge within the ambit of Dentist Doctor, promoting the development of skills related to the construction of an adequate and structured reasoning, linked to professional practice. The tutorial lessons, deigned to clarify and deepen the concepts, according to students' needs, consolidate knowledge and develop critical thinking necessary to acquire more practical nature skills. Thus, it is considered that the broad nature of the adopted teaching methodologies, using the presentation, analysis and discussion of issues in the classroom, observation of complementary diagnostic procedures, discussion of clinical cases and guidance on critical thinking and research and reading specific literature, is in accordance with the learning of general practical aspects of neurological diseases with applicability in dentistry and is consistent with the objectives set for this curricular unit.
