Learning Outcomes of the Curricular Unit: | |||
To improve the knowledge of the anatomy of the Stomatognatic System and to correlate it with the normal function and with the mechanics. It gives basic concepts of occlusion, the theory and to practice about articulators in dentistry. | |||
Syllabus: | |||
Functional Anatomy and Biomecanics of Stomatognatic System. Functional Neuroanatomy and Physiology of Stomatognatic System. Alignment and Dental Occlusion. Mechanics of mandibular movement. Types of movement. Criteria for optimum functional occlusion. Determinants of Occlusal Morphology. | |||
Demonstration of the Syllabus Coherence with the Curricular Unit's Objectives: | |||
The lectures will be taught in order to improve the knowledge of the anatomy of the Stomatognatic System and to correlate it with the normal function and with the mechanics, as well as to give basic concepts of occlusion. The laboratory classes will allow to apply the knowledge aquired in the lectures, by exercises and pratical work. | |||
Teaching Methodologies (Including Evaluation): | |||
Lectures (T) supplemented by laboratory practice (PL). This teaching will be supported by follow-up tutorial teaching (OT) of the knowledge acquired in both components and other activities (O) including research. The theoretical component will be assessed by a written test at the end of the semester or by final exam. Evaluation in laboratory practice component will be carried out continuously. In this course the theoretical assessment has a weight of 80% of the final grade and evaluation of the laboratory practice 20% of the final grade. The minimum approval rating in each of these components is 10 values. | |||
Demonstration of the Coherence between the Teaching Methodologies and the Learning Outcomes: | |||
The lectures with expository character and complemented by adequate bibliography, aims that students acquire the basic knowledge to improve the knowledge of the anatomy of the Stomatognatic System and to correlate it with the normal function and with the mechanics, as well as to giive basic concepts of occlusion. The laboratory classes with demonstration purposes, followed by preclinical realization of different works by the students aim that the student is able to recognize anatomic structures in artificial brains, perform models assembly in semi-adjustable articulator, analyze occlusal contacts and carry out diagnostic waxing. The tutorial teaching (OT) consist of orientation sessions to the students, to allow them to properly use bibliographies and develop scientific research methods to support the contents taught in the other components. Other (O) sessions are free and are designed to enable the students, if they wish, to deepen scientific research methodology within Stomatognatic System research field. | |||
