Learning Outcomes of the Curricular Unit:
The course aims to foster, from a continuous and sustained approach, the following objectives and competences:
Understand the food and nutritional policy making considering the economic, social, agricultural, environmental, and health conditions.
Analyze the the forces that contribute to the construction of a food and nutrition policy.
Understand planning, implementation, management and evaluation of food and nutrition policies at the regional, national and international level.
Develop intervention proposals within the context of the current food policy priorities.
Syllabus:
Nutritional Policy: the concept and its historical development, objectives and action plans. Implications for health, agriculture, environment, economy and climate change.
Process of formulating policies on food and nutrition (planning, implementation and evaluation of the efficacy and effectiveness). The importance of evidence based policy making
Global agendas for the future global food policy
Global food policy towards sustainable food systems. Sustainable and healthy diets

Demonstration of the Syllabus Coherence with the Curricular Unit's Objectives:
Aiming to achieve the learning objectives set out, of which emphasizes the ability to understand the context of the elaboration of food / nutritional policies, the syllabus focus and discuss the main food / nutritional policies in Europe and worldwide, their development, implementation and interconnection with the various sectors: economic, agricultural, environmental and health, which will allow students to have a global and comprehensive view of food / nutritional policies and future hypothetical concerted actions in public health and sustainable development
Teaching Methodologies (Including Evaluation):
Classes are theoretical based on oral lectures (use of visual data), with inclusion of practical examples and conduction of group work, when applicable.
Knowledge will be evaluated continuously and periodically through the following procedures:
Três evaluation moments, with the following weighting:
- 2 tests (40%+40%)
- 1 group assignement with oral communication (20%)
The moments of periodic evaluation will be schedule by the teacher at the beginning of the school year and will last 90min each. Individual evaluations will consist of multiple choice questions and short development questions. The development of the work group will be accompanied / supported by the professor.
Demonstration of the Coherence between the Teaching Methodologies and the Learning Outcomes:
The teaching methodology combines the oral methodology (oral lectures), essential to acquire basic structuring knowledge on the development of food / nutritional policies, and the group work, essential to put into practice these skills and to promote the political discussion.
