Learning Outcomes of the Curricular Unit: | |||
It is intended to deepen students understanding of key concepts of health, diseases, poor prognosis disease, and terminal illness; to deepen their knowledge about screening and that they develop a critical perspective on these; to deepen their knowledge about patients and families’ psychological reactions and coping with the disease and treatment, and on psychosocial determinants of the psychosocial adjustment to diseases, with particular emphasis on diseases of high mortality and morbidity. It is expected that students deepen their knowledge and acquire practical skills with regard to psychological intervention with patients and their families. Finally, it is expected that students deepen their knowledge on intervention with terminally ill patients, particularly regarding communication of bad news, coping with that information, stages of the grieving process, palliative care and euthanasia, as well as that they develop a critical reflection on these areas. | |||

Teaching Methodologies (Including Evaluation): | |||
Explanatory and active/participatory methodologies are adopted, with exploration of scientific papers conducted by students, presentation and discussion of clinical cases, implementation of role play strategies, promotion of critical debates in the classroom and study visits. The assessment adopted is continuous, consisting of specific practices (worth 50% of final grade) - work that is systematized into a final report -, and an oral exam for (worth 50% of final grade). | |||
