Learning Outcomes of the Curricular Unit:
This unit aims the introduction and development of statistical analysis techniques in a scientific approach. It focuses the comprehension of their importance, utility and modeling capacity, improving the critical and analytical judgment of data.
Syllabus: | |||
CP1. Basic Concepts. CP2. Descriptive Statistics: Frequency Distributions; Measures of central tendency and partition measures ; Measures of Dispersion, asymmetry and kurtosis . CP3. Association between two variables. CP4. Basics of Probability. CP5. Theorical Probability Function.
Demonstration of the Syllabus Coherence with the Curricular Unit's Objectives:
CP1., CP2. and CP3. Objectives: Ability to calculate statistics and distinguish them from parameters; Ability to properly characterize the data set (sample or population) and make their correct interpretation; CP4. and CP5. Objective: Ability to identify and use specific models of probability distributions.
Teaching Methodologies (Including Evaluation):
This unit will be the subject of an expositive, descriptive and demonstrative methodology within the theoretical-practical classes, resorting to the resolution of practical situations that allow to provide the application of the programmatic contents. The assessment of knowledge is done on an continuous basis, with a test and two questions (one written and one oral) being tested. The 1st test focuses on PC 1, 2 and 3 with a weight of 60%, the written lesson question is relative to PC4 (with a weight of 30%) and the oral class question will have a weight of 10% (Focusing on PC5). Some previous content may be questioned in order to verify eventual acquisitions of skills not manifested in the first moments of evaluation).
Demonstration of the Coherence between the Teaching Methodologies and the Learning Outcomes:
Given the essentially practical nature of that course all exposed concepts are applied to the resource to solve a number of exercises. This methodology allows to achieve the specific goals listed in each chapter of the that course program.
