Learning Outcomes of the Curricular Unit:
a) To assist each student in identifying possible problems to be studied in the context of political and humanitarian studies;
b) Plan the appropriate methodology to develop in a rigorous and objective way the problem to be treated;
c) Define strategies for planning research work;
d) Encourage the conditions for carrying out innovative research theses.
Syllabus:
1) Stages of doctoral work, scheduling of a timetable of activities, as well as its implementation and the problems related to it;
2) Analytical reference to studies in the various fields and sub-areas of Political and and Humanitarian studies (namely the study of the various institutional and functional clusters);
3) Method to research the state of the art: the main phases of a research, collection, processing and classification of information;
4) Steps taken to formalize the problem to be addressed;
5) PhD thesis planning: components, format, time planning of resources;
6) Propedeutical preparation of a doctoral project in a subarea of the study cycle, including the state of art.
Demonstration of the Syllabus Coherence with the Curricular Unit's Objectives:
The program content of this subject aims to provide students with the capacity and skills to drawup a research proposal and to establish a corresponding work plan. To this end, the problems relating to the doctoral work in Political and Humanitarian Studies are identified and analyzed, highlighting the main research issues in a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary dimension. The aim is to turn the PhD students familiar with the stages of drawing up a proposal for a doctoral work, including research issues or the problem to be addressed, in order to establish a detailed, organized and innovative work plan, as well as to provide knowledge and reading of advanced research work in the knowledge subareas of the Political and Humanitarian Studies.
Teaching Methodologies (Including Evaluation):
Expository method, including the demonstration of resources for students to understand the dynamic processes of scientific research activities.
Demonstration of the Coherence between the Teaching Methodologies and the Learning Outcomes:
The main aim being the learning of concepts, rules and research procedures in social sciences, carried out with support in the use of technologies and explanation of case studies. The functions performed by the technology include: 1. Demonstration and explanation of notes to complement the teacher's oral presentation; 2. Availability of materials with relevant subjects for students to discuss; 3. Demonstration of resources and procedures for students to understand the dynamic processes of scientific research.
