Learning Outcomes of the Curricular Unit:
Knowledge and ability to understand advanced theoretical texts on the history of sound and image, as well as on the importance of their role in the areas of communication (journalism, advertising, graphic communication, web); acquisition of skills in the recording and editing of sound and image; ability to collect, select and interpret relevant information; skills in communication, enabling the student to express ideas, identify problems and propose solutions; independent research skills enabling self-learning and autonomy in the pursuit of knowledge.
Syllabus:
1. Still and moving image
s
2. A historical look at Photograph
y
3. Cinema and its influences
4. The sound, the word, and Montage
4.1. The role of sound in audiovisual languages; technical innovations
4.2. Voice, music and the actors
5. Grammars of Montage: integration
6. Analysis and interpretation of film and audiovisual texts
Demonstration of the Syllabus Coherence with the Curricular Unit's Objectives:
To ensure knowledge and ability to understand advanced theoretical texts on the history of sound and image, as well as on the importance of their role in the areas of communication, the first four parts of the syllabus approach the differences between still image and image movement; provide an approach to the history and the context of image and sound, as well as their later integration in cinema and audiovisual languages. Regarding the acquisition of skills in the recording and editing of sound and image, as well as the ability to collect, process and interpret information, and skills in communication, enabling the student to express ideas through the matrices of thought in study (sound and image), the fifth and sixth parts of the syllabus expose the grammars involved in assembly processes (audiovisual integration) and promote the analysis and interpretation of film and audiovisual texts.
Teaching Methodologies (Including Evaluation):
The theoretical classes are lectures by the teacher, presenting and discussing selected academic texts. The practical lessons are dedicated to the analysis are examples of works, as well as for the production of original audiovisual works.
The evaluation system includes a written test (50%) and a the delivery of a Portfolio with practical works involving communication processes as they can be translated into sound and image (50%).
Demonstration of the Coherence between the Teaching Methodologies and the Learning Outcomes:
The theoretical test is designed to ensure that the student has read and understood the selected texts studied during the lectures. The portfolio with practical work (sound and image) allows measuring the level of knowledge articulation and communication of ideas acquired by the students.
