Learning Outcomes of the Curricular Unit:
The student should master the basic underlying theories of history of language and communication sciences in the study of human communication disorders. Goals / General Skills: 1. Understand the organization/structure of the language 2- Understand the language faculty and its components 3- Understand the science of language 4- Comprehend the main currents of language theories 5- Develop a formal phonetic-phonological, morphossyntactic, semantic and pragmatic awareness of language 6- Understand the main theoretical issues that perspetive the language as capacity of the mind, and a social product of brain activity 7- Apply linguistic knowledge in a clinical context

Demonstration of the Syllabus Coherence with the Curricular Unit's Objectives:
The Programatic Contents(PC) were delineated in terms of Learning Goals (LG) of the course: PC1 and 3 -OA1,2 PC2 - OA3 and 4 PC3, CP4, CP5, CP6, CP7, CP8 and CP9- OA5 PC10- OA6 PC11- OA7 PC1 examines the fundamental concepts associated with the distinction between communication, language, and speech and the distinction between verbal and non-verbal language. PC2 focus on aspects related to the main currents of linguistic: structuralism, functionalism and Gerativism. PC3 and 4 focus on aspects related to pragmatic component of language and textual linguistics. Sections 5 and 6 are about morphological and syntactic aspects of language. PC7 focus on classes of words and their classifications. PC8 examines semantics and its relations. Finally in Section 9 we discuss the phonological component of language. Teaching Methodologies (Including Evaluation):
Lectures and theoretical-practical: - Presentations using projections, explanations on the board, exemplifications, clinical cases on video - Summary and discussion of scientific papers - Development of small exercises to be solved in the classroom, solving problems and doubts Assessment: normal season - Continuous Assessment – 2 papers (40%) + 1 test (50%) + participation in classes (10%) season - Exam (100%)
Demonstration of the Coherence between the Teaching Methodologies and the Learning Outcomes:
Since the course consists of lectures and practical classes, the teaching methods will use the best procedures used in this domain. Thus, the exposure of key theories and concepts of Theory of Language and Communication will always have the participation and critical analysis by students, accompanied by consolidation exercises. Verification of the understanding of these concepts will occur using the interrogative method. The development of knowledge and skills of this course will be done by conducting small practical assignments (eg case studies, role-play), exercises in the classroom (eg worksheets) and independent research and application of acquired skills in a real context. Additionally, studies with use of concrete cases (in video) related to the course domains will be proposed.
