Learning Outcomes of the Curricular Unit:
- To distinguish and recognize the main characteristics of the quantitative and qualitative paradigms of research.
- To distinguish the different types of literature review and their fundamental characteristics.
- To be able to carry out a search in scientific databases.
- To know the different levels of evidence in research.
- To know the fundamental steps for the development of a nursing research project.
- To be able to carry out a critical reading of the research produced in the field of clinical supervision in nursing.
Syllabus:
1 - Quantitative and qualitative paradigms of nursing research
2 - Literature review
3 - Search in scientific databases
4 - Levels of evidence in research
5 - Steps for the development of a nursing research project
a) Conceptual phase
b) Methodological phase
c) Empirical phase
6 - Critical reading of the research produced in the area of clinical supervision in nursing
Demonstration of the Syllabus Coherence with the Curricular Unit's Objectives:
The contents of this discipline are designed to allow the introduction of concepts about nursing research in the area of clinical supervision and the essential steps to be followed for its development. These contents will allow students to acquire knowledge related to the recognition of nursing research as an essential tool for an evidence-based practice and as an instrument that promotes the critical-reflective process of the supervised.
Teaching Methodologies (Including Evaluation):
The discipline is comprised by contact hours and by the student's autonomous working time, and is organized in a format of theoretical and theoretical-practical lessons.
The teaching-learning strategies that will be used in this discipline are based on the principle of active participation of students centered on stimulating their thought and reflection processes.
The acquisition of knowledge will be complemented with consultation of scientific literature, since students will be encouraged to carry out research in order to gather the contents to support the study.
The evaluation includes the development of a group work on one of the themes proposed during the lessons and the oral presentation, whose weight is as follows: development of a written group work - 70%; oral presentation - 30%. For all questions related to teaching methodologies, the Academic Norms of University Fernando Pessoa are applied.
Demonstration of the Coherence between the Teaching Methodologies and the Learning Outcomes:
In a first phase, the need to analyze and reflect on new concepts implies the use of expository and interrogative methods. In a second phase, the demonstration of examples enables the acquisition of essential knowledge about nursing research. The exemplification of practical cases allows consolidating knowledge and training skills related to critical reading of studies in the area of clinical supervision in nursing, as well as about the search process in scientific databases.
