Learning Outcomes of the Curricular Unit:
To know concepts, theories and stereotypes associated with human aging
Identify the changes resulting from the aging process.
Identify nursing interventions aimed at elderly people in health-disease transitions and promoting active aging.
Understand the process of designing nursing care for the elderly inserted in their social and economic context.
Know the support network for the elderly, namely the role of the family and primary caregiver.
Understand human responses to life and aging processes and health-disease transitions of the elderly and family,
Demonstrate knowledge, skills and attitudes in the process of designing nursing care for the elderly.
Syllabus:
1 - Basic concepts and terms in geriatrics
2 - Theories of aging
3 - Demography of Aging
4 - Myths and realities about the old and the old
5 - Relation of help in geriatrics
6 - Challenges at the end of life
7 - Mistreatment of the elderly
8 - Resources of the elderly
9 - Pluripathology. Polymedication. Problems that go beyond the strict area of the disease.
10 - Pathologies of aging: vascular, respiratory, urological, cardiac, neurological, musculoskeletal, endocrine, ophthalmic, hematological, dermatological, digestive. Oral changes.
11. The 7 geriatric syndromes: cognitive disability, postural instability, immobility, sphincter incontinence, communicative disability, iatrogenesis and family failure.

13. Loss, death and grief in geriatrics

Demonstration of the Syllabus Coherence with the Curricular Unit's Objectives:
As the main objective of this curricular unit, the acquisition of knowledge and the development of skills for the practice of nursing care for the elderly inserted in their social and family environment, we believe that the syllabus will allow the development of the competencies provided for the care nurse general.
Teaching Methodologies (Including Evaluation):
The curricular unit allows, through the different types of sessions, to achieve the objectives of the curricular unit, including different teaching methodologies, namely expository, interrogative, role play, case studies and panel discussion. The final evaluation will include individual and group work, and individual written test.
Demonstration of the Coherence between the Teaching Methodologies and the Learning Outcomes:
The proposed evaluation strategies make it possible to validate the development of knowledge and skills within the scope of nursing care for the elderly inserted in their social and family environment.
