Spring SemesterPortuguese/English52
Learning Outcomes of the Curricular Unit:
- To understand the contribution of the research for building the nursing knowledge;
- To integrate the knowledge of other disciplines, related to research, in the development of knowledge, skills and competences for carrying out nursing research;
- To develop skills in the different stages of a research work through the development of an undergraduate research work;
- To plan, build, implement, analyze and disseminate nursing research being part of institutional research groups;
- To promote the development of scientific research skills which are necessary for promoting the nursing profession.
Syllabus:
- Sources of scientific information;
- Research: concepts and relevance to the nursing discipline and practice.
- Stages of a research process:
- To plan, build, implement, analyze and disseminate nursing research.
- Development of a research work in which the learning of the disciplines associated with the topic is systematized and relevant for the discipline and profession.
Demonstration of the Syllabus Coherence with the Curricular Unit's Objectives:
This discipline aims to synthesize and consolidate of all the learning built during the previous semesters associated with research, namely the development of the nurses' skills, defined by the Portuguese Nursing Council, in order to meet the quality standards of nursing care. Through the planning, construction, implementation, analysis and dissemination of a research work, the student will be able to acquire skills and competences to carry out nursing research, basing his practices on evidence, aiming to consolidate the nursing discipline and profession body of knowledge.
Teaching Methodologies (Including Evaluation):
The discipline structure is based on individual and small group tutorial guidance sessions that allow the student to develop the different stages of a research work, according to the project that he/she is integrated in. The elaboration of the graduation work is individual. The research pathways to be developed within the scope of the course should, preferably, be integrated into the ongoing research projects led by the professors of the course in one of the following areas:
- Active aging and caregivers
- Health / disease transition and nursing intervention
- Health education and training
- Health policies, management and administration
- Health literacy and mental health
- Nursing in the community
Demonstration of the Coherence between the Teaching Methodologies and the Learning Outcomes:
The teaching methodologies which are used operationalize the proposed objectives. The tutorial guidelines allow the student to follow the autonomous development of a nursing research work. Students will preferably integrate the ongoing research projects led by the professors of the course. These groups are organized around relevant objectives and develop structuring projects with relevance to the practice, to the health of the populations and the community. Some of these projects are developed at the Hospital-School, which allows the student to integrate training, research and experimental development activities in conjunction with future peers. Through the development of studies of different types and methods, it is intended to enhance the development of the student's skills, at this level, and contribute to the development of the profession and foster quality practices.
