Demonstration of the Syllabus Coherence with the Curricular Unit's Objectives:
Epidemiology is an auxiliary tool for scientific research in health. Tools for describing the health and disease status of a population and measures of association are used to analyze the relationship with exposure to certain factors. Different levels of prevention and types of epidemiological studies are addressed, as well as the importance of epidemiology in clinical practice and public health. Fundamental knowledge is provided that allow students to transfer to the development of skills in the provision of nursing care, aspects related to the epidemiological and prophylactic surveillance of populations.
Teaching Methodologies (Including Evaluation):
The curricular unit is developed in contact hours and in the student's autonomous working time. For the intended objectives, expository teaching methodologies, roleplay interrogatives and works are used. Classes are expository and interactive, using active strategies (roleplay, works, among others). The continuous assessment regime is based on the assessment of 2 group assignments carried out in the theoretical-practical component and respective oral presentation in the classroom with a weighting of 50% and the assessment of an individual written test, a weighting of 50%. Approval to the UC is subject to obtaining 9.5 values. In all items, the Pedagogical Regulation of the ESS-FP applies.
Demonstration of the Coherence between the Teaching Methodologies and the Learning Outcomes:
In a first phase, the need to analyze and reflect on new concepts implies the use of an expository methodology, interrogatives. In a second phase, and resorting to the use of active teaching-learning methodologies, guided research, document analysis, practical exercises, in order to integrate the student as active in the training process with the performance of group work, enabling the acquisition the articulation of theory with practice. The appeal to the critical sense of students in the analysis of results enhances their ability to interconnect knowledge and properly interpret the results obtained.
