Learning Outcomes of the Curricular Unit:
OA1. Being able to do health systems comparative analysis; OA2. Being familiar with the literature concerning health policies analysis; OA3. Understand the alternative models of health reform; OA4. Analyze and criticize health policies and ongoing reforms.
Syllabus:
CP1. The first public assistance policies: Bismarck and Beveridge models; CP2. The State of Welfare and the universal right to health: the National Health Service; CP3. The managerial model and its implications for policy and health systems; CP4. Comparative analysis of national health systems; CP5. Analysis of the major health systems (Britain, France, Germany, etc.); CP6. Policies and Governance in Health; CP7. Economic evaluation in Health.
Demonstration of the Syllabus Coherence with the Curricular Unit's Objectives:
Given the essentially theoretical nature of the discipline content the emphasis is placed on theoretical exposure with analysis and discussion of the theoretical and practical aspects addressed.
Teaching Methodologies (Including Evaluation):
M1. The exhibition of essential theoretical concepts is done using examples to better understand concepts application. These resources are all made available to the students. M2. The assessment is continuous and requires two tests: - the first one is about CP1, CP2, CP3, and CP4 (with a weight of 50%); - the second is about CP5, CP6, and CP7 (with a weight of 50%). The absence in an assessment moment counts as a grade of 0. The student will be approved to the module if the final grade is equal to or higher than 9.5, otherwise, the student will be sent to the exam season.
Demonstration of the Coherence between the Teaching Methodologies and the Learning Outcomes:
The combination of an expository methodology using examples of application and cases, result in a better understanding of the concepts and help students achieve the proposed goals for that course.
