• Identify the obligations and rights in the field of Health and Safety at Work. • Understand the causes and consequences of accidents at work • Identify the primary sources of risk and the respective preventive measures. • Identify the specific risks and respective preventive measures associated with health institutions. • Recognize general protection measures in an integrated and systematic way • Identify personal protective equipment. | |||

1. Hygiene and safety at work - introduction - legal framework 2. Obligations - employer - employees 3. Accidents at work - causes and consequences 4. Occupational diseases 5. General principles of prevention - risk assessment - probability vs severity - risk assessment matrix 6. Specific risks and respective preventive measures - noise - lighting - chemical substances - biological risks - electrical risks - psychosocial risks - ergonomic risks - lmert (work-related musculoskeletal injuries) 7. General protective measures - eliminate risk, involve risk and keep the man away - implantation and organization: - lay-out - equipment - procedures - signalling - fire protection - internal emergency plan - placement in institutions that support the elderly - Personal protective equipment | |||
Demonstration of the Syllabus Coherence with the Curricular Unit's Objectives: | |||
Given the essentially theoretical-practical and practical nature of the subject, exposure to analysis and theoretical-practical discussion of the aspects addressed is privileged, duly adequate to this course unit's learning process in the Health Service Aid course. | |||
Teaching Methodologies (Including Evaluation): | |||
Oral explanation of the contents with the support of audiovisual media. Call for active participation by students, through an interrogative methodology. Resolution of exercises. The evaluation will be continuous, based on the realization of theoretical-practical work (50%), and the presentation and oral discussion of this work (50%). The student will be approved to the curricular unit if the final classification is equal to or higher than 9.5 values; otherwise, it will be sent to the exam period at the end of the semester. | |||
Demonstration of the Coherence between the Teaching Methodologies and the Learning Outcomes: | |||
The teaching methodology centered on theoretical, theoretical-practical and practical information on the topics covered, including appropriate didactic resources. Thus, the combination of an expository methodology using examples and practical cases, result in a better understanding of the concepts and help students to achieve the objectives proposed for the Course Unit, thus being adequately adapted to the learning process of the discipline Hygiene and Safety in Health Institutions in the curriculum of this CTSP. | |||
