Learning Outcomes of the Curricular Unit:
The aim of the course unit is to provide the knowledge that will enable the student to know the dynamics of a Clinical Analysis laboratory. Regarding several issues such as: The importance of information management. The management of human resources. The management of equipments. The daily management of stocks.
Syllabus:
1. The importance of the LIS system in laboratories.
2. Types of tests: ELISA, Chemiluminescence, Western-Blot.
3. Quality assurance.
3.1. The 9001:2015 standard.
3.2 The 17025 Standard.
4. Quality Control
4.1. Objectives of quality control.
4.2. The pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical phases.
4.3. Internal and external quality control.
4.4. The statistical quality control.
4.5. benefits of Quality Control.
5.Principles of the most used tests in research of infectious diseases.
5.1. Sensibility. Specificity.
5.2 Choice of the adequate tests.
Demonstration of the Syllabus Coherence with the Curricular Unit's Objectives:
Through the expected course contents, the student should be able to recognize and apply, when necessary, the procedures referred to: The importance of the LIS system, Quality Assurance, Quality Control.
Teaching Methodologies (Including Evaluation):
Theoretical-practical classes, in which a theoretical exposition of the various contents is made, allowing, however, a frequent teacher-student interaction. Students will have the opportunity to visit one or more campus laboratories.
The evaluation of this unit is done using quizzes during the classes. The minimum grade for approval is 9.5, below which students will be required to take an exam
Demonstration of the Coherence between the Teaching Methodologies and the Learning Outcomes:
During the lectures, several examples are given of real and current situations about the various subjects, in which the students themselves can also intervene. Students are encouraged to talk about their experiences in the subjects that are justified. By being able to visit some of the laboratories on campus, students have the opportunity to verify in practice some of the concepts presented.
