Learning Outcomes of the Curricular Unit:
Recognize the importance of environmental management in an organizational context; identify the main applicable legal requirements; develop capabilities to design, implement and maintain an ISO 14001: 2015 environmental management system.

1. Importance of Environmental Management
2. Legal framework
3. Implementation of an Environmental Management System ISO 14001:2015
Demonstration of the Syllabus Coherence with the Curricular Unit's Objectives:
1. Importance of Environmental Management: what is environmental management, and what are the motivations for its implementation in organizational context.
2. Legal framework: highlights on the main legal requirements relevant for environmental management.
3. Implementation of an Environmental Management System according to ISO 14001: a deep study regarding the requirements of this standard is focused in this chapter. Theoretical explanations will be always associated with case studies and practical applications regarding realistic professional problems.
Teaching Methodologies (Including Evaluation):
The teaching methodologies are mainly expositive, interrogative and demonstrative. Case-studies are frequently used, aiming to enhance the interpretation and correct application of theoretical knowledge.
The evaluation is continuous, through the practical application of knowledge during classes, in individual or group assignments.
Demonstration of the Coherence between the Teaching Methodologies and the Learning Outcomes:
The teaching methodologies of this curricular unit were planned in order to enhance the practical applicability of the theoretical concepts transmitted. It is aimed to enhance students’ ability to identify adequate operational practices regarding environmental management, and to make them aware of their active contribution regarding these practices. According to this, it is believed that the use of case-studies will enable the students to understand the relevance of these subjects in the practice of organizational management, as well as the relevance of their role in this scope.
