Learning Outcomes of the Curricular Unit:
This discipline applies the fluid mechanics principles to hydraulic engineering problems: pressurized flow in pipes, pipe systems, flow measurement, pumps.
Head loss. Friction losses and minor losses. Pipes connected in series or in parallel. Equivalent pipes. Two and three reservoir problem. Flow in branching pipes. Flow measurement. Turbines and pumps
Demonstration of the Syllabus Coherence with the Curricular Unit's Objectives:
The presented syllabus covers the essential areas of knowledge to achieve the objectives set out, as the topics included in the program are the laws of resistance of the uniform flow, the operation flow of pressurized pipelines hoists and hydraulic pumps and hydraulic shock in pipelines, covering the main aspects of the study that enables students to identify and solve problems in preparation for development of hydroelectric projects.
Teaching Methodologies (Including Evaluation):
Expository, interrogative and demonstrative methodology, using problem solving and targeted investigation in order to understand the properties of fluids, the law of hydrostatic pressures, difference between absolute and relative pressure and the principles of operation of nozzles and spillways. Evaluate flow regimes, understand the concept of flow regime and evaluate permanent and uniform continuous load losses in pipes and pressure drop located in accessories.
Theoretical and practical assessment: Tests of individual assessment, group work in class and performance and student participation in the classroom
Practical laboratory assessment: Experimental results sheet (in group), 1 individual assessment test, final reports (with oral presentation) and student's performance (attendance, technical performance, active participation in class and global interest shown by area)
Demonstration of the Coherence between the Teaching Methodologies and the Learning Outcomes:
The proposed methodologies are consistent with the objectives set for the course given that support the development of targeted investigation, acquiring knowledge in hydraulic design of pipes and pipe networks analysis, and pumping calculation methods, the hydraulic ram phenomenon, establishing a parallelism between the theory and practice applied to real problems that enable students to solve problems of calculation and design in different hydraulic conditions.
