Learning Outcomes of the Curricular Unit:
The subject of MTR involves not only the general knowledge of the most common materials used in new construction and rehabilitation, as well as their selection, employment and proper application, including the methods and techniques used.
Thus it is established the required level for the best subject understanding by the students, that will be taught in other subjects of your course, and especially solicits extensive knowledge on the subject that includes the study of building materials and techniques of rehabilitation, acquiring skills and knowledge about the essence and behavior, and be able to:
- Identify a broad range of application of most common materials in construction;
- Determine the properties, characteristics and behavior of various building materials, shed on the nature and quality as well as its manufacturing process;
- Select the most appropriate materials, quality control, and mention the methods of application of building materia.
Syllabus:
Constructive System of Old Buildings; Constructive Characterization of Old Buildings; Granite masonry; Wood products; Techniques of Inspection and Diagnosis; Intervention in old buildings in stone masonry; Structural solutions; Practical cases
Rehabilitation laboratory work with structural reinforcement.
Demonstration of the Syllabus Coherence with the Curricular Unit's Objectives:
The contents were carefully chosen, the themes and its depth, and are taught in order to allow a continuous and gradual learning of knowledge, in the sense that the student achieves the proposed objectives and gain the required skills.
Selected topics fulfill the objectives of the proposed teaching and learning subjects.
Teaching Methodologies (Including Evaluation):
The teaching methodology is based on 3 distinct parts:
1. Theoretical part composed of the aforesaid syllabus with drafting a frequency of assessment (80%)
2. Practical component at the Civil Engineering Laboratory, with the elaboration of practical work, lab testing data releases according to protocol and final report with analysis of results (20%)
Demonstration of the Coherence between the Teaching Methodologies and the Learning Outcomes:
The proposed methodology was carefully chosen based on several years of experience, and seeks to facilitate a gradual and continuous learning, in order to achieve the proposed objectives. The encouragement of a non-contact study of the student facilitates the achievement of the desired levels of knowledge and training. The Bibliography indicated further contributes to facilitated access to the student of the programmatic contents.
