Learning Period:Language of Instruction:Total Hours:
Winter SemesterPortuguese/English91
Learning Outcomes of the Curricular Unit:
Provide knowledge and skills in the area of reinforced concrete structures, proposing to study the characteristics, behavior, calculation hypotheses and regulatory provisions applicable to beams, pillars and ties. At the end, the student should be able to check the safety and dimension these structural elements according to European standards, namely:
• Know the characteristics, properties and behavior of materials;
• Understand and know how to use the basic analysis and design methods and criteria;
• Know how to consult and interpret the regulations and standards applicable to reinforced concrete structures;
• Analyze and design sections of reinforced concrete beams subject to bending, shear and torsion, single or combined.
• Know and know how to apply the constructive provisions of beams, pillars and rods in reinforced concrete.
• Scale drawing representation of the recommended solution to be applied on site, taking into account the cost/performance ratio.

Demonstration of the Syllabus Coherence with the Curricular Unit's Objectives:
At the end of the curricular unit the student should obtain the following basic skills: to know the characteristics, properties and behavior of the reinforced concrete materials; Understand and know how to use the basic methods and criteria for analysis and design of reinforced concrete structures; know how to consult and interpret the regulations and standards applicable to reinforced concrete structures; Identify and employ general armor provisions; To determine the distribution of stresses and deformations in sections requested for normal and bending stresses; Analyzing and dimensioning sections of reinforced concrete beams subject to flexural, shear stress and simple or combined twisting in linear elastic phase and in relation to ELU and ELS; Know and know how to apply the constructive arrangements of reinforced concrete beams, pillars and tie rods; Scale representation of the recommended solution to be applied on site, taking into account the cost / performance ratio.
Teaching Methodologies (Including Evaluation):
The teaching-learning methodology applied in this course unit will be descriptive, descriptive and demonstrative. After the theoretical exposition of the subject follows the resolution of practical exercises, so that the students internalize the subjects taught.
Two tests (85%) and works (15%).
Demonstration of the Coherence between the Teaching Methodologies and the Learning Outcomes:
Objectives: to acquire technical capacity of dimensioning and verification of safety of linear structures applying the regulations; Reading and representation of structural solutions for a correct execution on site; Critical spirit in the search for the most economic and adequate solution.
