Learning Outcomes of the Curricular Unit:
Applied ENT is an area of fundamental importance in the degree in Speech Therapy.
The central objective of this area is the integrated approach of knowledge to areas of Otolaryngology and Neurology, with special interest for Speech Therapists.
Some of the major diseases in the patients condition mutilations, especially those located in the oncology sphere.Many of the situations addressed will interfere more or less relevant way in voice and swallowing, which is why we consider it essential to their detailed approach.
Other diseases with important functional consequences belong to the neurological level and, given its direct impact on voice and swallowing it was considered important to integrate them into the curriculum of future Speech Therapists
Syllabus:
1. Vocal pathologies of psychic origin
2. Vocal disorders caused by excessive neuromuscular tension in children and adults
3. Spastic dysphonia of adductors and abductors
4. Groups of diseases that affect similar phonation changes
5. Pathologies that course with continuous dysphonia
6. Pathologies that cause hoarse and strained voice with rhythmic and intermittent stops
7. Tremulous vocal group
8. Pathologies that affect voice with high, low and raspy vocal tone
9. Disturbances of oro facial motility
10. Swallowing and phonation disturbances associated with oncological head neck pathologies
11. Voice disorders related to partial surgery of larynx
12. Voice disorders associated with radical surgery of the larynx
13. Variations in fundamental frequency and vocal intensity arising from changes in airflow
Demonstration of the Syllabus Coherence with the Curricular Unit's Objectives:
The programatic contents (PC) were delineated in terms of Learning Goals (LG) of the course. So,
PC1-6 corresponds to LG1-2
CP1 focus on the knowledge and ability to understand about different forms of voice disorders that are commonly accompanied by the Speech Therapist who works in team with the ENT.
Teaching Methodologies (Including Evaluation):
- Expositive and supervised practice.
- Technical resources, including multimedia.
- Observation, analysis and discussion of cases.
Assessment: continuous. Final written test.
Demonstration of the Coherence between the Teaching Methodologies and the Learning Outcomes:
Since the course consists of lectures and practical classes, the teaching methods used fall into the best practices in this area. The development of knowledge and skills of this course will be conducted through an ongoing review of learning, tutored by the joint reflection and practice in the classroom.
