Learning Outcomes of the Curricular Unit:
The objective is to understand the good practices of dentistry in the environment of a hospital, namely out-patient clinic, primary care, palliative care, urgencies and dental emergencies. The treatment of patients with special needs (due to mobility limitations, systemic chronic or acute illnesses, trauma patients, in-patients and others. The objective is also to create the need for literature research in this field by visits organized to the dental clinic of the HE-UFP.
Syllabus:
Organization of dental services in hospital setting. Good clinical practice. Concepts of out-patient clinic, primary care, palliative care, urgencies and dental emergencies. Ophthalmoogy, Otorrinolaringology and dental medicine. Anaesthesia e conscious sedation. Nutrition. Diabetes. Oral pathology and medicine, oral oncology and medical oncology. The in-patient and the out-patient for systemic infectious disease or chronic systemic disease (vascular, renal, respiratory, digestive, etc). Autopsy and its relevance in dentistry. Methods of bibliographic research. Visits to the dental clinico f the HE-UFP and the CACE-HE-UFP.
Demonstration of the Syllabus Coherence with the Curricular Unit's Objectives:
Theoretical lessons (; 15h, one hour/week): Organization of dental services in hospital setting. Good clinical practice. Concepts of out-patient clinic, primary care, palliative care, urgencies and dental emergencies. Ophthalmoogy, Otorrinolaringology and dental medicine. Anaesthesia e conscious sedation. Nutrition. Diabetes. Oral pathology and medicine, oral oncology and medical oncology. The in-patient and the out-patient for systemic infectious disease or chronic systemic disease (vascular, renal, respiratory, digestive, etc). Autopsy and its relevance in dentistry. Tutorial guidance (OT;7,5h) Methods of bibliographic research and aquiring of knowledge in the field. Others (O; 7,5h) Visits to the dental clinic of the HE-UFP and CACE-HE-UFP.
Teaching Methodologies (Including Evaluation):
The final grade and approval at the discipline requires the approval at a written examination based on the program described for this unit. The candidate must have a minimum grade of 10 out of 20 points in the written exam. If the candidate fails to obtain a pass in the exam a second exam will be undertaken in accordance to the academic calendar. Students must be present in the theoretical lessons in accordance to the Pedagogic Regulamentations of teh University. The approval of the candidate in accordance to the rules described correspond to 2 ECTS.
Demonstration of the Coherence between the Teaching Methodologies and the Learning Outcomes:
This unit correlates theoretical and clinical concepts of dentstry with other medical specialties regarding the standard good clinical practice and the organization of dental services within local health units or hospitals (public or private). Theoretical lessons (15h; one hour/week): have the objective of explaning and updating the concepts describe in the curricular program of the discipline that together with a proper reading of the literature aim to develop cientific and professional abilities. Tutorial guidance (7,5h) aims to allow students to correctly understand the literature as well as to develop methods of research, improve their written and oral expositions and improve the analytic and systematic review of the knowledge obtained. Other sessions allow students to contact with dental medicine units within hospital setting by visiting the dental clinic of the HE-UFP and the CACE-HE-UFP.
