Learning Period:Language of Instruction:Total Hours:
Winter SemesterPortuguese/English52
Learning Outcomes of the Curricular Unit:
The student should be able to: recognize the importance of Pathological Anatomy to the study of the different pathologies; understand the steps that are made to obtain the results of an anatomopathological exam request; describe and identify the aspects of the different pathologies; have a domain about the fundaments of Pathological Anatomy to the resolution of problems in different contexts
Syllabus:
1- Cell injury - reversible cell injury - hydropic swelling; morphological reactions to persistent stress - atrophy, hypertrophy, hyperpasia, metaplasia, dysplasia, intracellular storage; irreversible cell injury - necrosis, apoptosis.
2- Inflammation - acute, chronic and granulomatous.
3- Wound healing - wound healing process; wound contraction; repair; regeneration; healing by primary and secondary intention; factors that influence wound healing; complication of wound healing.
4- Neoplasia - classification; histopatological characteristics; carcinogenesis; invasion; metastasis.
5- Assessment methods to histopathologic material in the pathology laboratory.
Demonstration of the Syllabus Coherence with the Curricular Unit's Objectives:
Understanding the methodology to histopathologic material in the pathology laboratory, the student will be able to execute the steps that are necessary to obtain the results of an anatomopathological exam request.
Understanding and identifying the histological alterations in the different pathologies, the student will recognize the importance of Pathological Anatomy to their's clinical study.
Teaching Methodologies (Including Evaluation):
Tests and individual and group works.
The student is considered "Aproved " to the UC having the classification equal to or higher than 09,50 values.
The final classification of the unit correspondeds to 60% T and 40% TP.
Demonstration of the Coherence between the Teaching Methodologies and the Learning Outcomes:
The exposure and debate of relevant theorical concepts in the class and the student self study orientation by consulting the recommended bibliography will allow him to resolve problems in diverse contexts, recognizing the importance of Pathological Anatomy to the study of the different pathologies The practical classes will allow the student to perform and understand the steps that are necessary to obtain the results of an anatomopathological exam request. Histopathological slides observation and interpretation will allow the student to describe and identify the aspects of the different pathologies, consolidating the exposures main concepts through clinical pathological cases presentation and discussion
