Learning Outcomes of the Curricular Unit:
Acquiring thinking and economic thinking in the dentist profession; contextualize the dentist profession in the Portuguese health system and services that integrate it; understanding the respective models and management tools.
Being familiar with the literature concerning health policies analysis, understand the alternative models of health reform and analyze and criticize the management of healthcare organizations.

I - Health Economics

3. The economic health as well

II - Health Organization
1. Health Systems;
2. The Portuguese health system
III - Administration and health services management
1. Management Methods
2. Management techniques
3. Demand, supply and market equilibrium.
4. The managerial model and its implications for policy and health systems.
5. Models of strategic analysis and Organizational Strategy in Health Organizations.
Demonstration of the Syllabus Coherence with the Curricular Unit's Objectives:
I -Students acquire thinking and economic reasoning for the understanding of economic principles, the knowledge of the specificity of the economic good health and the health market characteristics.
II - The student must know the systemic health organization, history and characterization of the Portuguese health system.
III - Are provided to the students with knowledge and information on the main methods and administration and management techniques.
IV - Realize the usefulness / applicability of the concepts and models of Economy on Health.
V - Being familiar with the literature concerning health policies analysis.
VI - Understand the alternative models of health systems and health reforms.
VII - Analyze and criticize the management of healthcare organizations.
Teaching Methodologies (Including Evaluation):
The exhibition of essential theoretical concepts is done using examples to better understand concepts application.
Continuous Evaluation: 2 tests (50% - I and II); 50% - III).
Demonstration of the Coherence between the Teaching Methodologies and the Learning Outcomes:
Given the essentially theoretical nature of the discipline content the emphasis is placed on theoretical exposure with analysis and discussion of the theoretical and practical aspects addressed.
