Learning Outcomes of the Curricular Unit:
The objective of the curricular unit (CU) is to develop a technical-scientific work, with an original contribution, in the domain of Dentistry. It involves the preparation and writing of a thesis, with rigorous technical and scientific standards. The thesis will be subject to public final examination. The thesis's subject, content and organization will be defined under the supervision of the thesis advisor(s). The course aims at developing the following skills:
1. Understand the planning of a research strategy based on a problem and a hypothesis to be investigated.
2. to conduct research in a ethical manner
3. Be able to carry out an extensive bibliographic research and correctly organize bibliographic references
4. Build a solid knowledge base for the treatment of experimental data.
5. Develop the critical spirit.
Syllabus:
1. Rules for the preparation of the dissertation (Manual of Style of Preparation of Scientific Papers UFP; Bibliography/references);
2. Ethics (Ethical issues; Research execution (research sponsor, risk limitation, data protection, conflict of interest));
3. Scientific communication (Preparation of a scientific paper or thesis; Preparation of an oral presentation of the work);
4. Data analysis (Comparison of information present in papers; Statistical analysis of databases).
Demonstration of the Syllabus Coherence with the Curricular Unit's Objectives:
The syllabus is coherent with the suggested learning outcomes.
Teaching Methodologies (Including Evaluation):
Teaching methodologies will include presentation and debate of theoretical relevant concepts, as well as guidance of students' autonomous study, through recommended bibliography. Brainstorming about pertinent questions related to syllabus contents will be encouraged. In addition to classes, the learning process can be complemented with tutorials sessions (during the attendance teacher's timetable) or resorting to the use University's digital communication tools (e-mail / e-learning).
Evaluation will be fulfilled through the thesis (written thesis) and its public defence, accounting for 100% of the CU final classification.
Demonstration of the Coherence between the Teaching Methodologies and the Learning Outcomes:
Teaching methodologies (theoretical presentations, debates and guidance of self-study) are fully consistent with the curricular unit outcomes. The workload of each syllabus content is also well suited to learning outcomes: Presentation/ public defence of the thesis: 1 hour 1.
