Learning Outcomes of the Curricular Unit:
The objectives and competences of this course are to develop , motivate and improve students in their ability to respond to basic needs of patients in a dental appointment . Having the student the opportunity to perform a series of simple clinical acts in different areas of dentistry in the same discipline and in an integrated way and can prioritize and treatment alternatives, as well as giving quick and effective response to the needs of the patient .
Syllabus:
Presentation and discussion by professors of clinical cases in the areas of occlusion, conservative dentistry, oral surgery, periodontics and aesthetics, endodontics .
Demonstration of the Syllabus Coherence with the Curricular Unit's Objectives:
The syllabus of the course aims to provide the student with scientific and technical knowledge to a multidisciplinary approach, development of the clinical sense necessary, needed to diagnose, plan and treat the patient in a perspective of a targeted and integrated clinical practice.
Teaching Methodologies (Including Evaluation):
The course is divided into the Theoretical components (15h) Laboratory Practice (90h), Tutorial (7.5H) and Other (7.5H). The Theoretical allows the student to acquire knowledge and enable the development of skills for the implementation of integrated clinical procedures in key areas of dentistry. In Laboratory Practice component will be held the clinical care of patients to perform diagnosis, preparing a comprehensive treatment plan and discussions with teachers and realization of basic and advanced treatment needed. The evaluation of Theoretical component consists of making a written test and is worth 20% of the final grade, the assessment of Laboratory Practice is a continuous assessment based on the achievement of clinical acts on patients and has a 80% of the final grade. The approval of this course gives 5 ECTS, with mandatory minimum grade of 10 in each of the evaluated components. The assistance scheme for school reports to the pedagogical regulation.
Demonstration of the Coherence between the Teaching Methodologies and the Learning Outcomes:
In this course, through the Theoretical and Laboratory Practice components, students acquire essential information to be guided on clinical observation of patients, performing the integrated clinical diagnosis, require complementary diagnostic tests as appropriate and apply the best treatment. Basic and advanced clinical acts under the supervision of the teaching will be carried out . Continuous assessment allows the student to be aware of the progression of their skills and competences in the various components. The components Tutorial and Other guidance student sessions will be held in order to enable them to adequately use bibliographies, develop scientific research methods , exercise oral and written and deepen analytical skills, synthesis and systematization of knowledge within of the course.
