Learning Period:Language of Instruction:Total Hours:
Winter SemesterPortuguese/English65
Learning Outcomes of the Curricular Unit:
OA1 - Introduce the knowledge about basic methods and tools for the study of biophysics.
OA2 - Acquire concepts, capacity for qualitative and quantitative analysis of physical principles in medical applications.
OA3 - Apply physical concepts about biomechanics to the human body, in particular, to the musculoskeletal system.
OA4 - To present techniques of quantitative analysis of states of static biomechanical equilibrium.
OA5 - To present techniques of quantitative analysis of states of biomechanical dynamics.
OA6 - Conceptualize and apply quantitative analysis of the elasticity and mechanical deformation of materials.
OA7 - To obtain generic knowledge on the principles of operation of some medical technology, in particular, in the field of clinical imaging.
OA8 - Obtain knowledge about laser and its application in dental medicine, as well as its aspects of safety use.
Syllabus:
1. General Considerations in Biophysics.
2. Introduction to Biomechanics.
3. Properties of Materials.
4. Lasers and Medical Imaging in Dentistry
Demonstration of the Syllabus Coherence with the Curricular Unit's Objectives:
The chapters presented in the program of the course unit will correspond to the following objectives and competences to be achieved (OA):
Chapter 1: OA1
Chapter 2: OA1, OA2, OA3, OA4 and OA5
Chapter 3: OA1, OA2, OA3, OA4, OA5 and OA6
Chapter 4: OA1, OA7, OA8.
Teaching Methodologies (Including Evaluation):
M1 - Use of the e-learning platform to store didactic material that will be made available to the student.
M2 - Pedagogical material with selected theoretical and practical problems that serve as a learning tool.
M3 - Autonomous research activities based on scientific articles.
M4 - Use of laboratory demonstrations and / or computational simulations to understand physical phenomena and principles of technology operation.
The evaluation is carried out through: one written test (with a weight of 70% in the final classification), and 2 or 3 evaluation questionnaires (with a average weight of 30% in the final classification).
Demonstration of the Coherence between the Teaching Methodologies and the Learning Outcomes:
M1 - Use of the e-learning platform to store teaching material that will be made available to the student, which serves as a support for orientation in the study of the subjects taught. M2 - Pedagogical material with selected theoretical and practical problems and which serve as a learning tool for the pursuit of objectives OA2, OA3, OA4, OA5, OA6 and OA7 M3 - Autonomous research activities based on scientific articles to achieve objectives OA4, OA5, OA6, OA7, OA8 and OA9. M4 - Use of laboratory demonstrations and / or computational simulations to understand physical phenomena and principles of medical technology operation to achieve all learning objectives.
