Learning Outcomes of the Curricular Unit:
1.Act with supervised autonomy, in the area of hygiene and safety in the elderly.
2. Identify specific risk factors in the daily life of the elderly.
3.Recognize the characteristics of organizations and the functioning of institutions working in the areas of gerontology and geriatrics.
4.Type and intervene in contexts related to diseases and accidents at work.
Skills:
1. Coordinates basic hygiene care for the elderly, at home or in an institutional context.
2.Implements care according to needs, promoting the well-being and safety of the elderly.
3.Generate a plan of evaluation of the individual's overall state, in articulation with the multiprofessional team.
4.Develops programs to reduce the risk of accidents at home or in an institutional context.
Syllabus:
1. Hygiene
1.1. Concepts associated with washing, disinfection and sterilization;
1.2. Product typology, application and associated recommendations;
1.3. Cleaning and disinfection of installations / surfaces, spaces, common areas;
1.4. Cleaning and disinfection of equipment and materials;
1.5. Cleaning and disinfection of the material of use in the individual hygiene;
1.6. Waste sorting;
1.7. Clothing Packaging;
1.8. Types of action in the hygiene of the elderly;
2. Security
2.1. Definitions associated with the safety of the elderly
2.2. Prevention and protection measures
2.3. Types of action in the area of elderly safety
Demonstration of the Syllabus Coherence with the Curricular Unit's Objectives:
It is intended that the contents developed throughout the CU, enable the students with theoretical and practical knowledge in matters of Hygiene and Safety in the elderly, contributing to the acquisition of skills that allow qualified future technicians to perform various functions in the area of care to the elderly, as well as to exercise the coordination and leadership of specialized teams and services.
Teaching Methodologies (Including Evaluation):
The curricular unit will be developed based on the bibliographical research, analysis, discussion and joint critical reflection on the different topics addressed, elaboration and discussion of guided group work.
Students will make groups of no more than three elements. The continuous evaluation will be made up of the average of the various works done in Group, presentation and discussion, with a weighting of 100%.
Demonstration of the Coherence between the Teaching Methodologies and the Learning Outcomes:
In order to respond to the objectives formulated, the methodologies to be used in this CU, will privilege interactive methodologies, involving students in the process of teaching learning, focused on the reflection and analysis of the different topics, presenting them to the group, aiming to train higher technicians , capable of multidisciplinary and supervised team, assess needs, plan intervention, mobilize adequate resources, and intervene with the oldest age groups of the population, particularly those with greater biopsychosocial vulnerability.
