Learning Outcomes of the Curricular Unit:
Provide students with the knowledge to know the about the different methods and techniques of Physiotherapy in Intensive Care. The student at the end should be able to achieve the following parameters: identify its indications and contraindications, integrating scientific knowledge, formulating a clinical reasoning based on the evidence, deploy the skills and expertise in the preparation of plans and intervention strategies, implement the ability to reflect on the intervention of the physiotherapist in the Intensive Care Unit in clinical practice and research.
Syllabus:
1. Physiotherapist skills in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) compared to the critically ill patient
1.1. Subjective evaluation
1.2. Objective evaluation
1.3. Complementary means
2. Modalities invasive mechanical ventilation
2.1. Full ventilatory support
2.2. Full ventilatory support
2.3. Indications and Contraindications
3. Weaning Protocol
3.1. Disconnection process
3.2. Extubation Process
3.3. Decannulation
4. Modalities and interfaces for noninvasive ventilation
4.1. Interfaces
4.2. Indications and Contraindications
4.3. Instrumental Techniques
5. Effectiveness of different treatments of Physiotherapy in Intensive Care
5.1. Pathologies
5.2. Identification of actual and potential problems
5.3. Intervention strategies
6. Confluence of clinical cases
6.1. Presentation and Analysis
6.2. Discussion
Demonstration of the Syllabus Coherence with the Curricular Unit's Objectives:
The introduction of basic theoretical and practical concepts of the techniques / strategies assessment and therapeutic methods used in Physiotherapy in Intensive Care enables the student to develop the ability to understand the scientific basis of them. In this sense, it seeks to provide the students with specific knowledge and terminology of the Modalities invasive mechanical ventilation, Weaning Protocol, Modalities and interfaces for noninvasive ventilation and Effectiveness of different treatments of Physiotherapy in Intensive
Teaching Methodologies (Including Evaluation):
Theoretical-practical: includes expository and/or discussion format classes with the presentation of case studies. The assessment is comprised a written exam (80%) and individual work (20%) which are evaluated terminology, theoretical concepts and clinical reasoning applied in Physiotherapy in Intensive Care.
Demonstration of the Coherence between the Teaching Methodologies and the Learning Outcomes:
Theoretical-practical: The different themes and presentation of case studies in the classroom will be transmitted in an expository and / or discussion format in order to allow the acquisition by the student of theoretical and practical knowledge of the specific principles, terminology of the Modalities invasive mechanical ventilation, Weaning Protocol, Modalities and interfaces for noninvasive ventilation and Effectiveness of different treatments of Physiotherapy in Intensive Care.
