Learning Outcomes of the Curricular Unit:
Theoretical-practical: Provide the students with the knowledge to know the terminology, theoretical concepts and to identify potential risk factors in sports, neurological, respiratory and in geriatrics, being able to develop a plan for assessment, treatment and prevention for the various fields, demonstrating their application in different clinical situations.
Internship: Students should be able to assess, identify and execute the previously learned physiotherapy techniques and apply them in the clinical practice. The students should know the indications and contraindications of each technique and formulate an appropriate clinical reasoning in order to assess and treat patients in real clinical situations in a much more autonomous way.
Syllabus:
A: I. Clinical Integration in Sports: 1. Case Studies in Sports, 2.1-2.10 Assessment and Treatment: Sprains of the tibiotarsal, Reconstruction of the ACL, Patellar tendinopathy, and Osgood-Schlatter disease, Plantar fasciitis, Muscle rupture of the calf muscle and Achilles tendon, Epicondylitis and epitrocleites, Conflict shoulder, injuries to the spine. II. Clinical Integration in Neurology: 1-6. Methodologies for assessment and intervention in a patients with: Stroke, Traumatic Brain Injury, Spinal Cord Injury Vértebro-medular injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's Disease and Peripheral lesions. III Clinical Integration in Respiratory: 1. Assessment of the respiratory patient, 2. Auscultation, 3. Spirometry, 4. Oximetry, 5. Assessment scales, 6. Laboratory parameters, 7. Clinical cases. IV. Clinical Integration in Geriatrics: 1. Case studies of Geriatric patients, 2. Theories of aging, 3. Changes in senescence 4. Multidimensional functional assessment. B.Internship
Demonstration of the Syllabus Coherence with the Curricular Unit's Objectives:
Theoretical-practical: The introduction of theoretical and practical concepts in the fields of Sports, Neurology, Respiratory and Geriatric enables the student to develop the ability to understand the scientific basis of different strategies in different areas of physiotherapy intervention, allowing students develop the ability to further identify, in real patients, during the internship, the appropriate practices in accordance with an appropriate clinical reasoning in key of physiotherapy fields.
Internship: Faced with different clinical situations, students must demonstrate knowledge of the various assessment and treatment techniques, its indications and contraindications, and to formulate a suitable clinical reasoning, enabling them to assess and treat patients in real clinical situations. In this sense, it prepares students for an increasingly more autonomous clinical practice.
Teaching Methodologies (Including Evaluation):
The final score is calculated taking into account the 70% of the final practical and 30% of the final theoretical-practical component.
Theoretical-practical: Includes expository and/or discussion format classes with the presentation of case studies. The assessment is comprised of two written exams (50% + 50%) where the terminology, theoretical concepts and clinical reasoning applied in the Clinical Integration in Sports, Neurology, Respiratory and Geriatrics.
Internship: Includes supervised clinical practice where students will apply the techniques of physiotherapy assessment and treatment learned up to now, in actual clinical cases and in different contexts. The evaluation will include the practical performance of the student (75%) and the drafting of a final internship report(20%) with the deep analysis of one of the case studies (5%).
Demonstration of the Coherence between the Teaching Methodologies and the Learning Outcomes:
Theoretical-practical: The different themes and presentation of case studies in the classroom will be transmitted in an expository and /or discussion format in order to allow the acquisition by the student of theoretical and practical knowledge of terminology format and clinical reasoning applied in Clinical Integration in Sports, Neurology, Respiratory and Geriatrics. Internship: Through supervised clinical experience the students will apply the assessment and treatment techniques of physiotherapy learned so far, in actual clinical cases and in different contexts, formulating an appropriate clinical reasoning in order to assess and treat patients in real clinical situations in a much more autonomous way.
