Learning Outcomes of the Curricular Unit:
The hematology study the origin and functioning of blood cells, their functions and interactions in blood and tissues, in order to guarantee homeostasis, cellular and humoral immune response. It also studies their failures and / or their imbalances, which translate into illness, as well as the possibilities of their diagnosis and treatment. The laboratory pratice aims to understand and evaluate the hematological in order to allow its proper implementation in the most frequent hematological
Syllabus:
Granulopoiese: growth factors, properties and function of phagocyte
Benign quantitative changes of neutrophils;
Myelodysplasias, Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS), Myelomas, Chronic Leukemias LLC and CML
Acute Leukemias ALL and AML (Etiology, Prevalence, Clinical Presentation, Signs and Symptoms, Laboratory Diagnosis, Classification, Treatment); Lymphadenopathies and Lymphomas
Acute Leukemias ALL and AML; Laboratory research: cytochemistry
Components of the hemostatic response; Coagulation cascade; Fibrinolysis; Hemostatic function tests; Hereditary Disorders of coagulation; Oral anticoagulants, Heparin;
Demonstration of the Syllabus Coherence with the Curricular Unit's Objectives:
The program of this unit aims to teach the most frequent haematological diseases and their respective methods of diagnosis, clinical and laboratory, and treatment. These skills are essential to interpret the results of the analyses in this area. The students will learn about how to perform and interpret laboratory analytical determinations.
Teaching Methodologies (Including Evaluation):
The scheme of assessment will be continuous. Includes evaluating the theoretical and practical component. The assessment of the theoretical component will include assessment of students in each class, two written tests and exposure of subjects (individual or group). The practical assessment is the result of the evaluation of the student in the laboratory along with worksheets delivered at the end of each lesson and the final pratic exame.
Demonstration of the Coherence between the Teaching Methodologies and the Learning Outcomes:
Ongoing (in each class) and writing assessment allows us to check the knowledge and skills acquired by students.
