Syllabus:
In this Course, different aspects that influence the health of the users will be addressed, emphasizing the aspects related to the intrinsic knowledge of Nursing: Diagnosis and interventions, having as a holistic perspective.
Role of nursing in the preoperative period
• User of the Surgical Forum: Taxonomy of Surgeries
• Role of nursing in the intraoperative period
• Role of nursing in the postoperative period.
• Surgical wounds: classification, purpose, potential contamination, urgency
• Nursing care for patients with elective surgeries, namely: digestive tract, urologic, gynecological, oncological, orthopedic, cardio-thoracic, pulmonary, endocrine and neurological.
• Prophylaxis of surgical wound infection and central catheters. Type of surgical dressings.
• Most used drugs: effectiveness / efficiency and side effects;
Demonstration of the Syllabus Coherence with the Curricular Unit's Objectives:
It is intended that the contents selected, are in line with the objectives previously formulated, enabling the students to be trained with the technical-scientific knowledge in the area of Surgical Nursing. The contents are enough to ensure that all guiding principles of the profession and clinical practice in Nursing are covered. The proposed topics aim at the continuous development of students, and all contents are fundamental to acquire the necessary knowledge to develop skills of observation, communication, research, teamwork, critical analysis and decision making, face to theoretical / practical contexts in the scope of Surgical Nursing.
Teaching Methodologies (Including Evaluation):
Expository, participative, demonstrative, active, with support of audiovisual media and joint reflection of the themes; Practical Demonstration Classes; Group work oriented, with practical application of the scientific methodology presentation and discussion;
Workshop on the person with musculoskeletal disorders and tegumentary alterations
Attendance is compulsory for curricular units of theoretical education, practical theoretical in at least 50% of the hours of the Curricular Unit and 80% of the Laboratory Practice, in order to have access to continuous evaluation, according to the UFP Regulation.
Continuous assessment consists of two components: 2 Theoretical frequencies (35% + 35%) and writing, presentation and discussion of written work, based on the scientific methodology (30%).
Examination: Students who do not obtain approval in continuous evaluation, may take the exam consisting of 1 written frequency, weighting 100%
Demonstration of the Coherence between the Teaching Methodologies and the Learning Outcomes:
The use of the methodology of expositive, demonstrative, participative and active teaching, using theoretical frequencies and elaboration of group work, where it demonstrates, in writing and orally, evidence of clinical reasoning. This evaluation methodology contributes to the student's training, generating new ideas and thus, validate the development and construction of specific knowledge of the professional nursing practice.
