Learning Outcomes of the Curricular Unit:
In this curricular unit of a markedly practical nature (Journalism Lab), the competences to be acquired are the following:
1- To understand and contextualise the concept of 'reference daily newspaper';
2 - To understand and identify the mechanisms and procedures necessary to a reference daily newspaper
3 - To understand the difference between 'reference daily newspapers' and other publications.
As to the learning outcomes, the students are expected to:
1- In a strict sense, to identify, within the general journalistic context, different types of publication;
2 - In a general sense, to display a high level of intellectual maturity, so as to reinforce their civic personality and future professional abilities.
Students should also develop skills that enable them to undertake discourse analysis and reflect on relationships with science and society.
Syllabus:
The reference newspapers: concept, practices and procedures.
Ombudsman;
Jounalistic sources;
Ethics and deontology.
Demonstration of the Syllabus Coherence with the Curricular Unit's Objectives:
As this curricular unit involves a relevant laboratorial and practical dimension, the work carried out on leading newspapers, referred to in ‘contents’, ensures the accomplishment of the learning objectives.
On the one hand, students gain knowledge on the features that distinguish the main leading newspapers; on the other hand, students practice using those dallies, which fosters critical and intellectual maturity, as well as a growing civic awareness.
Teaching Methodologies (Including Evaluation):
Assessment shall include a final assignment (100%), which will be subsquently discussed in class. Such work will involve a practical dimension as actual currently leading newspapers will be used for that purpose.
Demonstration of the Coherence between the Teaching Methodologies and the Learning Outcomes:
Such form of assessment in a curricular unit of a practical nature observes the proposed learning outcomes: to gain knowledge, to put that knowledge into practice, and to increase civic and critical awareness, as implied by the two items above.
