Learning Outcomes of the Curricular Unit:
O1) Acquire a basic knowledge of the main models for understanding the processes of child and adolescent development; (O2) to know and articulate the main theories of development in these stages and to take a critical stand against them. (O3) Identify and understand the characteristics of perceptual, motor, cognitive, emotional, linguistic, affective and personality development at each major stage of development; (O4) To improve oral and written communication skills; (O5) Develop a critical and self-critical attitude as well as adopt ethical and deontological values.
Syllabus:
1st Unit - Developmental Psychology: Fundamental issues 1.1. Developmental Psychology: Object, Research methods for the study of development; Fundamental theoretical models. 2nd Unit - Child development 2.1. Development in the Prenatal Period 2.1. Physical and perceptual development 2.2. Cognitive development (operative and information processing approach) 2.3. Psychosocial development (key concepts and main theoretical approaches) 3rd Unit - Adolescent Development 3.1. Physical Development 3.2. Cognitive Development (contributions from neurosciences, operative approach and information processing) 3.3. Psychosocial Development (key concepts and main theoretical approaches).
Demonstration of the Syllabus Coherence with the Curricular Unit's Objectives:
Unit 1 - The syllabus focuses on theoretical subjects that serve as an introduction to the study of human development, thus enabling the objectives of the curricular unit to be achieved, more specifically: integrating knowledge, skills and abilities regarding the different development theorists and knowing the main ones. techniques and methodologies used in the investigation of Developmental Psychology. Units 2 and 3: The syllabus privileges the approach of specific theoretical subjects in the development area, allowing to achieve the objectives of the course, more specifically: integrating knowledge, skills and abilities to know the normal development of childhood to adolescence in a holistic way taking the context into account; identify and understand the characteristics and patterns of cognitive, linguistic, perceptual, motor, social, affective and personality development at each major stage of development and acquire basic observation skills.
Teaching Methodologies (Including Evaluation):
Teaching methodology will include theoretical lecturing, research, reading and discussion of specific references, as well as thematic debating and critical reflection. Assessment will be continuous and based on two written test, a practical essay, an oral presentation and work discussion, as well as the execution of theoretical and practical tasks in the classroom, and students’ punctuality and attendance.
