Learning Outcomes of the Curricular Unit:
(i) Acquire knowledge and ability to understand the specificities inherent in the psychological assessment of adults and senescents;
(ii) Know and understand the objectives, theoretical assumptions, practical considerations, the specific advantages and limits of the different methodologies and techniques of psychological assessment of adults and senescents (eg, interviews, direct observation, behavioral assessment scales, tests psychological);
(iii) Knowing how to select the appropriate methodologies and techniques in the psychological assessment of adults and senescents;
(iv) Train basic skills in applying, quoting and interpreting the results of different instruments used in the psychological assessment of adults and senescents;
(v) Demonstrate oral and written communication skills of the information obtained.
Syllabus:
1st Unit: Applications and specificities of psychological assessment of adults and senescents. Implications of assessment for psychological intervention. The psychological assessment report: specifics concerning adults and senescents. Models and methodologies of psychological assessment of adults and senescents: interviews (clinical) and direct observation.
2nd Unit: Methodologies and tools for adult psychological assessment: Behavioral assessment. Intelligence assessment (e.g., WAIS, Raven's Progressive Matrices, etc.). Personality assessment: Self-report tests. Projective tests.
3rd Unit: Methodologies and instruments for screening/psychological assessment of the senescent: Cognitive assessment (including screening for dementia) (e.g., MMSE, MOCA, BLAD). Neuropsychological assessment (e.g., BANC). Emotional assessment (e.g., GDS-30, GDS-15). Functional assessment (e.g., IAFAI).
Demonstration of the Syllabus Coherence with the Curricular Unit's Objectives:
Unit 1 - acquisition of knowledge and ability to understand the specifics inherent to the assessment.
Unit 2 - characterization and practical application of adult psychological assessment tools and methodologies, in order to: understand the objectives, theoretical assumptions, practical considerations, advantages and specific limits of the different methodologies and techniques; select and apply appropriate methods and techniques; demonstrate application, quotation and interpretation skills.
Unit 3 - characterization and practical application of the instruments and methodologies of psychological assessment of the senescent, in order to: understand the objectives, theoretical assumptions, practical considerations, advantages and specific limits of the different methodologies and techniques; select and apply appropriate methods and techniques; demonstrate application, quotation and interpretation skills; reveal oral and written communication skills.
Teaching Methodologies (Including Evaluation):
The teaching methodology will include theoretical exposition, research, reading and discussion of specific bibliography, thematic debates, critical reflections as well as observation of consultations at the CPP. The assessment will be continuous, based on the completion of a written assessment test (60%), on the execution of a practical work and on the presentation and oral discussion of this work (40%).
Demonstration of the Coherence between the Teaching Methodologies and the Learning Outcomes:
Unit 1 - Theoretical exposition of contents characterizing the area of ??activity; individual and group discussion of cases for different problems that constitute psychological assessment requests; demonstrations; practical exercises with the aim of demonstrating knowledge and basic skills to perform psychological assessment tasks in their different application contexts. Unit 2 - Theoretical exposition of contents for the characterization and practical application of psychological assessment with adults; presentation of real cases (anonymous); handling of materials used in the psychological assessment of adults; demonstrations; observations at the CPP in order to be able to integrate the theoretical and practical knowledge acquired in the administration of psychological assessment tests; Demonstrate oral communication and report writing skills; Unit 3 - Theoretical exposition of contents for the characterization and practical application of psychological assessment with senescents; presentation of real cases (anonymous); handling of materials used in the psychological assessment of the senescent; demonstrations; observations at the CPP in order to be able to integrate the theoretical and practical knowledge acquired in the administration of psychological assessment tests; reveal oral communication and report writing skills.
