Learning Outcomes of the Curricular Unit:
• Describe the principles and domains of environment, safety and health in the workplace (OSH);
• Know the national and international legal framework of OSH and the principles of promotion and prevention;
• Motivate for the main risk factors in the workplace;
• Contextualize occupational accidents and occupational diseases (DP), recognizing the causes, costs and consequences of occupational injuries;
• Understand the cost-effectiveness of investments in Security;
• Promoting safe behavior in the field of OSH;
Skills:
• Integrates the principles and domains of environment, OSH;
• Master the principles that aim to promote OSH in Portugal and in Europe;
• Know the main risk factors in the workplace;
• Difference in TA and DP;
• Knows principles and practices of information and communication in OSH, namely in relation to emergency plans, fire fighting, evacuation and first aid;
• Integrates safe and responsible OSH behavior;
Syllabus:
1. Notions of Safety and Health at Work;
2. Evolution of Occupational Health and Safety: legal and economic aspects - National and international labor legislation;
3. Occupational Safety and Health Organization;
4. Concept and classification of occupational accidents and illness;
5. Management of occupational risk prevention;
Demonstration of the Syllabus Coherence with the Curricular Unit's Objectives:
It is intended that the contents developed throughout the CU, train the students with theoretical-practical knowledge, in matters of Safety and Health at work. This UC will contribute to the acquisition of knowledge inherent in national and international labor legislation, regulations, circulars, technical guidelines. rights and duties of workers and employers.In this way, the contents are in line with the objective previously formulated, allowing students to adopt behaviors and attitudes towards prevention, appropriate in the scope of OSH, within the framework of an active participation of citizens.
Teaching Methodologies (Including Evaluation):
The curricular unit will be developed based on bibliographical research, analysis, discussion and joint critical reflection on the topics addressed, elaboration and discussion of group work orientation.
The students will make groups of no more than three elements, to prepare a case study of a company / institution, phased by different Curricular Units (UC), which constitute the Study Plan, based on the stages of Risk Management.
In this UC, students will elaborate a stage of the study, which contextualize the legal framework of Safety and Health at Work, aiming at the prevention of occupational risks. Continuous evaluation will consist of the preparation of a Group work, presentation and discussion, with a weighting of 100%.
Demonstration of the Coherence between the Teaching Methodologies and the Learning Outcomes:
The methodologies to be used in this unit will focus on interactive methodologies, involving students in the teaching-learning process, focused on the reflection and analysis of diagnostic cases, aiming at the promotion of OSH and the fulfillment of the legal obligations in order to prevent the occurrence of occupational accidents and the emergence of occupational diseases through the implementation of a set of basic measures.
