Learning Outcomes of the Curricular Unit:
The present course aims to provide the students with instruments and methods for ethical thought about the emergent and persistent ethical issues present in the different professional areas of Health. The instruments and methods for ethical thinking will be applied to the knowledge students are expected to acquire and develop on the various topics of the syllabus. Students are also expected to get familiarized with the deliberative method as well as with bioethical reflection inn the specific context of the analysis of ethics and deontology codes
Syllabus:
Professional ethics and codes of ethics
Ethics of organizations and social responsibility
Deontology: deontological norms within the ethical expectations in healthcare
Ethics, Virtues and the concept of professional group.
Demonstration of the Syllabus Coherence with the Curricular Unit's Objectives:
The syllabus focuses on the role of Ethics, Morals and Deontology in health professions, promoting ethical deliberation on ethical and deontological issues in the practice of these same professions. Students are expected to acquire tools that can contribute to a professional life guided by ethical values, thus contributing to the Humanization, Integrity and Responsibility of healthcare professionals.
Teaching Methodologies (Including Evaluation):
The teaching methodology will include theoretical presentation on the different topics of the syllabus, research, promotion of reading and reflection activities, with moments of debate / deliberation. The evaluation will be continuous, based on the accomplishment of a written work on this module.
Demonstration of the Coherence between the Teaching Methodologies and the Learning Outcomes:
The teaching methodology, based on case discussion, ethical deliberation and analysis of academic and other type of texts (journalistic, literary, legal), is in line with the proposed objectives, namely to develop the tools for reflection and ethical deliberation in the management of healthcare.
