Learning Outcomes of the Curricular Unit:
The course addresses minorities and the reasons underlying their emergence.
The course also aims at debating the political and legal frameworks enabling action for the protection of minorities.
The course also covers in tandem, the issue of gender based discrimination and legal and political protection against it.
Syllabus:
1. Minorities and gender.
1.1. Minorities: the concept.
1.2. National and ethnic minorities.
1.3. Racialisation and racism.
1.4. Other minorities.
1.5. Gender identities.
2. Anti-discrimination policies.
2.1. Minority rights and integration/ inclusion policies.
2.2. Women’s rights and gender equality policies.
3. Case studies: Minorities/ Gender identities.
Demonstration of the Syllabus Coherence with the Curricular Unit's Objectives:
Knowledge and critical awareness on minorities require preliminary knowledge on some of political science and cultural studies contents and methodology
Teaching Methodologies (Including Evaluation):
- Two written tests (40%+40%)
- Report on case study (20%)
Demonstration of the Coherence between the Teaching Methodologies and the Learning Outcomes:
The methodology adopted aims at fostering the students' interest and involvement with the topic. The programme is oriented towards active learning with guided activities in class. The tests and presentations aim at producing reliable indicators of learning outcomes
