Learning Outcomes of the Curricular Unit:
The Applied Political Journalism curricular unit aims to provide knowledge and skills about journalism that contribute to broadening the possibilities of professional insertion and understanding of the political world for CPRI students. Among the skills to work are the preparation of news, interviews, reports, chronicles and analysis and opinion articles specialized in politics, for various media, especially the online press.
Syllabus:
1. The functioning of the media
2. The wording
3. Editorials and specialized journalism
4. The different types of events and issues as referents of journalistic discourse
5. Newsworthiness criteria and journalistic processes
6. The relationship with information sources in the political sphere
7. Principles of informative, analytical and opinionated journalistic language in the various media
8. Law and ethics of journalism: fundamental principles
9. Journalistic genres: theory and practice applied to political coverage
Demonstration of the Syllabus Coherence with the Curricular Unit's Objectives:
The entirety of the ECTS is intended for teaching basic elements for understanding the journalistic system and its relations with the sphere of politics and for the preparation, accompanied by the teacher, of at least four specialized hypermedia materials on politics: a news item, an interview, a report and an analysis article. These subjects (and others) should feed a blog, which the student should also develop throughout the course. Thus, the objectives foreseen for the curricular unit are fulfilled.
Teaching Methodologies (Including Evaluation):
Theoretical lectures; theoretical-practical classes that provide an understanding of journalistic procedures and journalistic language; practical classes on journalistic techniques; lectures with guests (journalists, press officers and others); student's personal work to apply knowledge and improve skills.
The classification of the curricular unit will depend on a knowledge assessment test, which will have a weight of 50% in the final grade, and on the evaluation of the four practical assignments foreseen, duly inserted in a hypermedia blog.
Demonstration of the Coherence between the Teaching Methodologies and the Learning Outcomes:
By marrying aspects of journalism theory with journalistic practice, merging in the domain of journalistic technique as a space for enlightened practice, and by reconciling theoretical lectures with practical classes and the student's personal work, duly guided by tutorials, the teaching methodology- learning adopted will provide the acquisition of knowledge and skills foreseen.
