Learning Outcomes of the Curricular Unit:
To be able to:
- Integrate concepts, theories, methods and techniques in management of people and their abilities;
- Identify relevant features in individuals and groups throughout questionnaires, interviews and observation;
- Develop oral and written abilities of communication;
- Develop a critical attitude and to adopt ethical and deontological values.
Syllabus:
Content I - Work, people and organizations: negative aspects related to work; psychological and sociological functions of work; managing people in a dynamic context: people management in different Eras.
Topic II - Managing people and their abilities: job analysis; selection and integration; performance appraisal; training; outplacement.
Demonstration of the Syllabus Coherence with the Curricular Unit's Objectives:
Topic I: Students should be able to analyze different negative aspects related to work and the psychological and sociological functions the works plays in people’s life. According to this purpose, the discussion of accident, anxiety, burnout and mobbing scenarios in the work place will be discussed; also the positive functions of work like giving meaning to life, growth and development and status and prestige.
Topic II: Students should identify, characterize and discuss the importance of different people management processes. According to this purpose, contents are related to job analysis; recruitment, selection and integration; performance appraisal; training and development; outplacement.
Teaching Methodologies (Including Evaluation):
Teaching methodology will include research, readings, discussion of specific references, thematic debating and critical reflection. Assessment will be continuous and based on a written test, a practical essay, an oral presentation and work discussion, as well as the execution of theoretical and practical tasks in the classroom.
Demonstration of the Coherence between the Teaching Methodologies and the Learning Outcomes:
Topics I and II - In order to achieve the pedagogical goals, teaching methodology will include research, readings, discussion of specific references, thematic debating and critical reflection. Assessment will be continuous and based on a written test, a practical essay, an oral presentation and work discussion, as well as the execution of theoretical and practical tasks in the classroom. The use of this methodology has the purpose of promoting students theoretical knowledge of relevant human capital contents and also the application of this contents in their future professional activity.
