Learning Outcomes of the Curricular Unit:
Objectives to be achieved (OA):
OA1. Understanding aging as a current and global issue
OA2. Basic concepts in the biology of aging;
OA3. Describe the different biological theories that try to explain the natural aging process;
OA4. Acquire fundamental concepts of human anatomophysiology;
OA5. Describe the biological structural and functional changes that characterize the natural aging process.
OA6. Acquire the knowledge to propose strategies to delay aging.
Syllabus:
CP1. Global aging.
CP2. Basic concepts in the biology of aging:
Biogerontology / geriatrics; Longevity / life span; Biological aging; Development, maturity and senescence / Senility
CP3. Theories of aging:
Stochastic theories / Genetic theories
CP4. Physiology of human aging:
changes in body composition and energy metabolism, skin, sense organs, digestive system, urinary system, immune system and reproductive system
CP5. Age-related diseases in men: nervous system Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease; cardiovascular system and cardiovascular disease; endocrine system and glucose regulation: type II diabetes; musculoskeletal system and calcium metabolism in bones: osteoporosis and arthritis.
CP6. Modulating human aging and longevity:
Caloric restriction and physical activity.

CP6 aims to achieve OA6
Teaching Methodologies (Including Evaluation):
M1 - Provision of didactic material to the student through the e-learning platform
M2 - Transmission learning
M3 - Research learning
M4 - Discussion of clinical cases and current situations using the image and explanatory diagrams.
Evaluation
Two THEORETICAL-PRACTICAL tests (each with 50% of the final classification)
Demonstration of the Coherence between the Teaching Methodologies and the Learning Outcomes:
