Learning Outcomes of the Curricular Unit:
Hematological exams are used in the diagnosis, prognosis, monitoring and screening of diseases; The theoretical program aims at training in the area of granulopoiesis, function and interation of all five White Blood Cells (WBC) and pathophysiology their most common benign and malignant alterations.
Syllabus:
Functions of the 5 leukocyte populations. Benign morphological and numerical alterations: Leukocytoses and Leukopenias Neutrophils Lymphocytes, Eosinophils and Monocytes. Malignant alterations principles of oncobiology : Myelodisplasias, Acute and cronica myeloid leukemias, Acute and cronic lymphoid leukemias. Lynphomas: Oncogenésis, Epidemiology, classification, laboratorial diagnostic.

It is intended that the student acquire solid theoretical foundations in theoretical hematology and, given their future role as executors, acquire competence for the laboratory practice of the basic and specialized analytical techniques in this area. It is also intended that they know how to integrate knowledge from other basic disciplines, critical sense and focus on evolution and continuous study.
